The workshop, led by career expert Rosemarie Ryan, Director or Organisation Development and Engagement with Chanelle Pharma, provided valuable insights into understanding and leveraging career motivations for better decision-making and job satisfaction.

Understanding Career Anchors

Rosemarie introduced attendees to the concept of career anchors, developed by MIT Professor Edgar Schein. These anchors represent the guiding principles that drive our career choices and motivations. She explained that there are eight distinct career anchors, each reflecting different aspects of an individual’s values, talents, and needs.

Focusing on the importance of aligning one’s work and life with their identified career anchors. Rosemarie stressed that understanding your career anchor can lead to:
