This week we’re profiling Serosep.

If innovation, work-life balance, and making a positive impact matter to you, then Serosep may be the perfect place to restart your career.

Company background: Serosep

Founded in 1997, Serosep began by distributing diagnostic products for Clinical Microbiology, Histopathology, and Environmental Laboratories.

The company aims to continuously improve the quality of patient results and the daily lives of scientists by offering easy-to-use diagnostic solutions.

Serosep is a thriving company with just over 100 employees in Limerick.

Its continuous investment in R&D and commitment to innovation have placed it at the forefront of the diagnostic solutions market, exporting products to over 35 countries.

Serosep was recently honoured as the #1 Best Workplace in Ireland in the Mid-Size Category by Great Place to Work Ireland 2025.

In 2021, Serosep was awarded Medtech Company of the Year, a testament to the dedication of its employees.

As a family-run business, Serosep aims to improve diagnostic capabilities with innovative, easy-to-use products and services, all while making a positive contribution to the scientific community.

Why work at Serosep ?

Serosep is an attractive place for returnees because it has a supportive and inclusive work environment.

The company understands that sometimes life gets in the way, and has policies to reflect that. These include a family medical leave policy, a menopause policy, and a fertility policy.

Serosep reduced its working hours to 36.5 back in 2024 to give its employees the time to ensure they have a healthy work-life balance.

The company also offers people flexible starting times to fit around their family lives.

There’s a great work culture at Serosep, which is reflected by its Great Place to Work certification for the last 3 years.

The company invests in training and development in employees as it knows the world of work is changing and wants to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow and succeed in their roles.

Serosep has also been recognised for its focus on health and wellbeing, named as Best Workplace in Health and Wellbeing for 2024.  This is down to the various programmes and benefits the company runs to support the physical and mental health of its employees.

And finally? Serosep prides itself on its team-oriented culture, where teamwork and going the extra mile are highly valued.

This supportive community helps new and returning employees feel welcomed and integrated.

What to expect

What does a typical working day look like at Serosep?

There are lots of different roles that make up the workforce at Serosep, and while their tasks vary, a typical day might entail a team meeting to discuss goals, updates, and any challenges.

Depending on their role, employees will then either be at their desks or in their production area.

The company doesn’t have a strict break time; people usually take their breaks at a time to fit around their day, so mid-morning breaks start around 10am.

After that? There might be formal or informal training that takes place either online or in person.

Lunch usually starts at 1pm, but some people prefer to wait until later when it’s not as busy.

The canteen or ‘staff eatery’, as it’s called, is a great place to get to know employees from other departments that you wouldn’t necessarily work with on a daily basis.

Once an employee is fully trained, they have the freedom to get on with their daily tasks, but have plenty of support from their team or manager if they need help.
