Implementation of BIM (Building Information Modelling) in the construction industry is of paramount importance as BIM applications become mainstream worldwide. The BIM Roadmap was rolled out in Ireland in 2017, encouraging industry to embrace the use BIM. Graduates of the course are poised to take on BIM Management roles and lead the roll out of BIM nationally.

BIM for VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) is the computer simulation of the architectural definition and assembly of a building design project. The introduction of BIM and the application of new computerised software for energy efficiency and other aspects of engineering design have led to an increasingly digital construction environment where there are opportunities for those who upskill accordingly.

The BIM authorising tool Revit (Architecture, Structural and MEP) is becoming the standard software used worldwide. This course serves to upskill construction industry professionals to become proficient in the software Revit and BIM, presenting an opportunity to upskill in a learner’s education and profession.

This course explores the use of Revit software and the BIM process in the effective design and delivery of construction projects, concentrating firstly on acquiring the Revit skills to produce a 3D BIM model of a domestic and commercial building; progressing to a project-based curriculum focussed on the succeeding dimensions of BIM such as 4D clash detection, 5D quantity take-off and 6D energy modelling, developing and advancing the learner’s skills in Revit Architecture and BIM workflow and collaboration.

Course modules link together to allow learners to gain competencies that cut across individual activities, with peer group projects, reflection exercises and teamwork to develop skills that can be employed in any context, provide the foundation for learners to rapidly update their digital construction skills, in particular the use of BIM software.
Time table
This course will be delivered part time (online) in the evenings. Delivery in this mode will facilitate upskilling and reskilling the widest possible group of company employees without requiring employees to cease employment while doing the course. As the course will be delivered online, it won’t matter where in the country students are located.
