But its origins are not rooted in celebration alone \u2014 they are rooted in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-origins-of-international-women-s-day\">The Origins of International Women\u2019s Day<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>International Women\u2019s Day began in the early 20th century during a period of significant industrial expansion and social change. Women were entering the workforce in greater numbers, often in poor working conditions, with low pay and little protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York demanding better pay, shorter working hours and voting rights. The following year, the first National Woman\u2019s Day was observed in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1910, at the International Socialist Women\u2019s Conference in Copenhagen, activist Clara Zetkin proposed the idea of an International Women\u2019s Day \u2014 a global day of action to press for women\u2019s rights and suffrage. The idea was unanimously approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first official International Women\u2019s Day was marked in 1911 across Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, with more than one million people attending rallies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, the day evolved from a grassroots labour movement into a global day of recognition and advocacy. In 1975, the United Nations officially began celebrating International Women\u2019s Day, reinforcing its global significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At its heart, International Women\u2019s Day has always been about one thing: accelerating equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-this-still-matters-especially-for-midlife-women\">Why This Still Matters \u2014 Especially for Midlife Women<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>More than a century later, progress has been made. But equality is still uneven \u2014 particularly for women navigating career breaks, caregiving responsibilities or midlife transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many midlife women:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2716\ufe0fCareer breaks can lead to confidence gaps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2716\ufe0fSkills can be undervalued despite decades of experience<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2716\ufe0fHiring bias can quietly limit opportunity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2716\ufe0fFlexible pathways back to work remain inconsistent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet, the talent, resilience and capability in this demographic is extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where employers play a pivotal role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-celebrating-the-employers-who-are-changing-the-narrative\">Celebrating the Employers Who Are Changing the Narrative<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>At<a href=\"https:\/\/backtoworkconnect.ie\/\"> Back To Work Connect<\/a>, our mission is simple: connect experienced talent with forward-thinking employers who recognise that potential does not have an expiry date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This International Women\u2019s Day, we want to celebrate the organisations who actively support that mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The companies who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fEmbrace returner-friendly hiring practices<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fInvest in upskilling and career transitions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fRecognise experience as an asset, not a liability<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fCreate inclusive pathways back to meaningful work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These employers are not just filling roles. Today, real progress happens when employers partner in that mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equality is not achieved through awareness alone. It requires policy, leadership and action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fEvery returnship programme launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fEvery inclusive hiring policy implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0fEvery opportunity extended to a career returner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the modern expressions of what International Women\u2019s Day has always stood for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-looking-forward\">Looking Forward<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The future of work must include experienced women at every stage of their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this International Women\u2019s Day, we celebrate how far we\u2019ve come \u2014 and we recommit to accelerating progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To our partner employers: thank you for backing midlife women.
