And it may come as no surprise that women dominate this\nstatistic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether it\u2019s taking time to grow a\nfamily, look after elderly parents, or pursue a passion, there are plenty of\nreasons women choose to step off the traditional career path. But, when or if\nthey decide to get back on, the transition is not always smooth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A bumpy pathway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, scores of skilled,\ntalented and experienced women consider returning to work after a long hiatus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These returners have a wealth of\ncareer experience, impressive credentials and an abundance of value to offer\nprospective employers \u2013 but they\u2019re often overlooked in a biased environment\nthat favours young talent with continuous work history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, paired with challenges such as\nunconscious hiring bias, gender inequality, and the gender pay gap, can create\nadditional barriers and a bumpy pathway for women returners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Shifting the perspective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While it will take time to snuff out\ncareer break stigma completely, we\u2019re starting to see significant strides in\nthe right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From fresh perspectives and\ntransferable skills to a renewed sense of energy, employers are beginning to\nacknowledge the value &amp; benefits a returner can bring to their business and\nare now actively tapping into this talent pool to create a stronger, more\ndiverse workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The days of hiding a gap on a CV are\nalso ending. Earlier this year, recruitment platform LinkedIn introduced a\n\u201ccareer break\u201d function on user profiles to make it easier for candidates and\nrecruiters to have open conversations about the skills and experiences amassed\nduring a career break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reframing the break <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For decades, a career break was\nconsidered a career breaker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, however, with the introduction\nof supportive programmes designed to support &amp; empower returners paired\nwith an increased awareness of the value they can bring to a business, we are\nseeing a much-needed shift in perspective.
