But remember, employers aren&#8217;t looking for perfection. They&#8217;re looking for people who can demonstrate experience, potential and a willingness to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This roadmap will help you prepare for interviews with practical techniques, structured answers and the confidence to talk about your career journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estimated time: Work through at your own pace (around 1 week)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-before-you-begin\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before You Begin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A reminder&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feeling nervous before an interview is completely normal. Most people experience interview nerves, whether they&#8217;ve been working continuously or are returning after a career break. Preparation doesn&#8217;t remove nerves completely\u2014but it gives you the confidence to manage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Remember:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2728You were invited because the employer already sees potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2728You don&#8217;t need to know every answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2728Interviews are conversations, not exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2728You&#8217;re also deciding whether the employer is right for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confidence comes from preparation, not perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-step-1\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 Step 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-understand-the-star-technique\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understand the STAR Technique<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many interview questions ask you to give a real example of how you&#8217;ve handled a situation in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The STAR technique helps you structure your answer clearly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>S \u2014 Situation<\/strong><br><strong>T \u2014 Task<\/strong><br><strong>A \u2014 Action<\/strong><br><strong>R \u2014 Result<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preparing a few examples in advance can make interviews feel much less stressful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Download the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/backtoworkconnect.ie\/careerhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/BTWC_STAR-Technique.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">STAR Interview Worksheet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-step-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 Step 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-build-your-star-story-bank\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Build Your STAR Story Bank<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prepare <strong>5\u20136 examples<\/strong> that demonstrate different strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about a time when you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2610 Solved a problem<br>\u2610 Worked successfully with others<br>\u2610 Took the lead or showed initiative<br>\u2610 Managed competing priorities<br>\u2610 Adapted to change<br>\u2610 Learned something new<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember, these examples don&#8217;t all have to come from paid employment.
